Digital Twin Editor - Material Editor

Introduction

Users can edit materials for digital twins uploaded via the Fast Track or those from the 3D Studio. The user flow for editing remains consistent across both methods.

Getting Started

Within the Digital Twin editor, access the materials tab (identified by the color palette icon). Clicking this icon will transition you to the material editor section.

Selection Materials

This panel displays the currently selected material. As you navigate between parts, this representation will change accordingly. If multiple materials are selected, it will show as Mixed materials.



Materials Library

The library offers plenty of starting materials for your digital twin, ranging from car paint to plastics and rubbers. To utilize a material, hover over it and click "Import" to move it to the "My Materials" section.



Shared Materials

At the top of the library, you'll find Shared materials. These are materials created by other content creators within the workspace, available for communal use. You can assign them directly or duplicate them for personal modifications.



While editing a workspace material, two additional options are available:

  • Edit Material: Modify the material attributes.

  • Delete Material: Remove the shared material from the workspace.

Notes

Note: Changes to shared materials affect all users in the workspace. Consult your colleagues before making modifications.




My Materials

This section displays all imported or duplicated materials from the library. However, you can also create custom materials from scratch here. Click the Plus icon beside "My Materials" to add a new material.



Within the material settings, which you can access through the three dots icon, you have several options at your disposal:

Duplicate and Share: You can duplicate materials to create variations or share them with collaborators to ensure consistent design across projects.

Delete: you have the ability to delete materials that are no longer needed.




Name your Materials

Naming materials properly is crucial for keeping your workspace organized. This helps you and your team find and use the materials you need for your projects quickly. Click on the new material box to change it.



Material Property Editor

When creating a material, adjust its attributes using the property editor, accessed by clicking the material logo. Here, you can fine-tune color, opacity, metalness, and smoothness.



Assign Materials

After editing your material and giving it a name, it's time to use it.
Select one of the digital twin parts with selection mode (hold CTRL) and then on the material click Assign.
If you want to revert your materials to their original ones, on the Selection Materials section, hover over the selected material and click on the reset to the original material icon.



To manage numerous materials effectively, use the "Filter Used" checkbox to display only materials currently used in the digital twin. Additionally, utilize the search bar to quickly locate specific materials by name.


Save Your Changes

Upon completing your work, ensure you save your changes. The "Save Changes" button is located at the bottom of the screen. Remember to publish the model afterward for others to view; unpublished models will not be visible to other users.
